Applications are now open for the Chevening Scholarships, which enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. If you have the passion and influence to solve pressing local, national, or global challenges, we strongly encourage you to apply.
Requirements
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:
- Be a citizen of a eligible country
- Commit to returning to your home country (country of award) for at least two years after your scholarship ends
- Have at least two years’ work experience, acquired after completing your undergraduate degree, equivalent to 2,800 hours
- Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies you for a UK master’s programme
- Apply to three different and eligible UK university courses. You must have received an unconditional offer from at least one of these course choices by the deadline listed
Benefits
The Chevening Programme includes a tailored engagement programme creating opportunities for scholars to network with each other as well as alumni, the FCDO, high profile speakers and partner organisations. Award recipients receive:
- Payment of tuition fees
- Economy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only
- An arrival allowance
- The cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only
- A departure allowance
- A contribution of up to £75 for TB testing, where this is required
- A travel top up allowance
- A monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. These rates are subject to annual review
Application Timeline
- 4 August 2026: Applications open at 11:00 UTC
- 6 October 2026: Applications close at 11:00 UTC
- From October 2026: Applications are sifted against eligibility criteria
- Mid-October 2026 to January 2027: Reading committee assessments
- Mid-February 2027: Applicants shortlisted for interviews
- March to April 2027: Interviews take place
- Mid-June 2027: Results
- 8 July 2027: Offer deadline
- September/October 2027: Studies begin in the UK
Application Process
Candidates from all over the world are interviewed by panels at British embassies and high commissions. Candidates invited for an interview must upload all their documentation to the online application system at least seven working days before their interview. Documents include photo ID, undergraduate education certificate/diploma, and reference letters.
